Dalslands Canal
Dalsland's canal is a fantastic labyrinth of large and small lakes, rivers and winding canal stumps in Dalsland. The canal is a large boating and canoeing area. Only one mile is dug or blasted canal, the rest is a 24 mile long navigable lake system between Köpmannebro on Vänern and the Norwegian border. Dalsland's Canal was completed in the years 1864-1868. The work was led by the famous canal builder Nils Ericson. The main attraction is the aqueduct in Håverud.
Saturday
We start in Skog over Famsheden, Blikseud and Gullesby and then enter the vast cultural landscape towards Brålanda. There we have lunch before continuing over Sörhagen and Luserup towards Udden. A few pictures later, we continue along Vänern's shore to Mellerud and then back to the facility for a well-deserved beer and a better dinner.
Sunday
We will go north, in the direction of the canal. After Linderyd, we follow the Svanfjorden and begin our tour around Ånimmen. At km 40 we have a coffee at Larssons Gårdsbutik, We reach Strömmens sluss after 45 km on our way to Håverud and the famous canal there. We have lunch at the smokehouse and enjoy the canal. We drive through Svankila Nature Reserve, pass Skållerud and then back towards Kroppefjäll.
We cycle according to Grusets Vänner's principles.
We cycle to have fun, there are no intervals and it is not about cycling the fastest but having the best experience. If you want to splurge, it's of course fine, you wait further on. We may also split the group, if it turns out to be better. Our Guides have a lot of experience in arranging and holding these tours.
* No one is left alone.
* Sprint or peel off if you like but let the group catch up again
* We take care of and help each other in case of mechanival issues.
* We bike safely and keep our distance, remember the "three second rule" especially on gravel.
* It's all about having the nicest of days.
