TOSCA
One day, three ways to die.

We're going to the Opera again. A long tradition continues. This time it's a fantastic production of the classic opera Tosca.
A thriller-like opera set in a time of political unrest and war. At the center are the opera singer Floria Tosca, her lover, the artist and freedom fighter Mario Cavaradossi, and the cruel, all-powerful police chief Scarpia. A triangle drama created for Stubø's minimalist and deeply personal direction.
On the intimate stage of the Folkoperan, Tosca becomes a gripping, intimate study of passion, abuse of power, rebellion and terror. A deadly drama with the opera singer Tosca and Puccini's incomparably beautiful music at its center.
Folkoperan's musical director Henrik Schaefer elevates the triangle drama together with a brass band. Here, the intimate instead of the pompous in Puccini's music is sought. There is room for new musical nuances that enhance the story and the drama.
Eirik Stubø made his Swedish debut as an opera director with Bellini's Norma at the Folkoperan in 2022, which was praised by both audiences and critics. Now he returns with the same team; set and costume designer Magdalena Åberg, lighting designer Ellen Ruge, makeup artist Therésia Frisk and translator Tuvalisa Rangström.
Puccini's Tosca premiered in Rome in 1900 and is considered one of the masterpieces of operatic literature. With songs such as É lucivan e stelle (the song of life), Vissi d'arte (Tosca's prayer) and Scarpia's Tre sbirri… una carozza – which ends with the choral part Te Deum, it leaves no one indifferent.
The Italian Giacomo Puccini is one of the world's foremost composers with operas such as La Bohéme, Turandot and Madama Butterfly on his CV. He lived like the superstar he was with adulterous affairs, a penchant for exclusive clothes, villas, yachts and cars. But his life was also marked by depression, illness and tragedy. Puccini died after a failed operation in 1924.
