We're going to the Opera again. A long tradition continues. This time it's a fantastic production of the classic opera Tosca.
A thriller-like opera set in a time of political unrest and war. At the center are the opera singer Floria Tosca, her lover, the artist and freedom fighter Mario Cavaradossi, and the cruel, all-powerful police chief Scarpia. A triangle drama created for Stubø's minimalist and deeply personal direction.
På Folkoperans intima scen blir Tosca till en gastkramande närstudie av passion, maktmissbruk, uppror och skräck. Ett dödligt drama med operasångerskan Tosca och Puccinis makalöst vackra musik i centrum.
Folkoperan's musical director Henrik Schaefer elevates the triangle drama together with a brass band. Here, the intimate instead of the pompous in Puccini's music is sought. There is room for new musical nuances that enhance the story and the drama.
Eirik Stubø Sverigedebuterade som operaregissör med Bellinis Norma på Folkoperan 2022, som rosades av både publik och kritiker. Nu återkommer han med samma team; scenograf och kostymdesigner Magdalena Åberg, ljusdesigner Ellen Ruge, maskör Therésia Frisk och översättare Tuvalisa Rangström.
Puccinis Tosca hade urpremiär i Rom år 1900 och räknas till ett av operalitteraturens mästerverk. Med sånger som som É lucivan e stelle (sången till livet), Vissi d’arte (Toscas bön) och Scarpias Tre sbirri… una carozza – som avslutas med körpartiet Te Deum lämnar den ingen oberörd.
Italienaren Giacomo Puccini är en av världens främsta kompositörer med operor som Bohéme, Turandot och Madama Butterfly på sitt CV. Han levde som den superstjärna han var med otrohetsaffärer, en fäbless för exklusiva kläder, villor, yachter och bilar. Men hans liv var också kantat av depressioner, sjukdomar och tragedier. Puccini avled efter en misslyckad operation år 1924.
