Basque food

The Basque Country is best known for its food culture and its tapas-like pintxos. There are also three three-star Michelin restaurants in the country, all in the province we pass through and visit. Many people call San Sebastián the capital of food, and of course we make a stop and spend the night there.

Pintxos

One pintxo is a small bite served in bars or small taverns in northeastern Spain and mainly in the Basque Country. Pintxos are a common snack when spending time with friends or family and thus constitute a strong social tradition in the Basque Country and Navarre, a bit like coffee for us in Sweden. In concept, it is similar to tapas with the main difference being that pintxos are usually pierced with toothpicks or skewers, often with a piece of bread. They are served in individual portions and ordered individually and are always paid independently of the drink.
