Around Lake Vättern Gravel Tour

Welcome to the Vättern Round, but now on gravel and over three days.

When: 11-13 August 2023.
Where: Start and finish in Motala
How: We cycle around Lake Vättern on gravel
Sleep: We have booked a number of rooms at hotels in Jönköping and Karlsborg.
If you want to sleep the night of the 11th, you arrange it yourself.
Price: It is cost-effective. Accommodation will be paid directly to the hotel.

What can you expect?
We cycle to have fun, there are no intervals and it is not about cycling the fastest but having the best experience. If you want to splurge, of course it's fine, you wait further on. We may also split the group, if it turns out to be better. Our Guides have a lot of experience in arranging and holding these tours. The tour is essentially self-supported. Coffee, accommodation and eating places are included on the route, but they are of course optional.
Participants are responsible for their own navigation and any bicycle repairs.

The tour is relatively tough, 15 miles per day with approx. 1,500 hm. It's not possible to bail, we're cycling around a lake. We have plenty of light, the sun rises at 5 a.m. and sets around 9 p.m.

Friday
Motala -> Jönköping

After a breakfast, we roll out at 08.00. We will cycle through Vadstena and reach Borghamn after about 51 km. A quick coffee before we start the climb up Omberg. Anyone who wants to make the detour down to Stocklycke Hamn. Km 60-109 is a long slack road. In the middle of it, we eat lunch in Ödeshög. When the climb is finished, a real descent to Gränna awaits. There sits a coffee quite well. The last climb of the day starts in Gränna and ends at km 135. From there it's a nice downhill to Jönköping, where we sleep the first night at the classic VOX Hotell

Saturday
Jönköping -> Karlsborg
After a hearty breakfast, we cycle north. Already after km we pass a Willys if you perhaps need to supplement with something. We have coffee after about 6 miles in Brandstorp and lunch in the harbor in Hjo 3 miles later. Mölltorp is the next stop, it's 3 miles there, there is both a shop and a pizzeria, but most likely we will cycle on towards Karlsborg, a mile later. We take in the fortress and maybe a better coffee. We stay at Hotel Wettern.

Sunday
Karlsborg -> Motala, return journey,
Departure from Karlsborg at 08.00 and we reach Askersund after 6 miles, a quick coffee certainly feels right. We soon reach the mining area with Garpa and Zinkgruvan, where there is also a coffee shop. The next stage takes us to Bona Handelsträdgård after about seven miles. Here we eat lunch. The last four miles to Motala take us down to Vättern's beach before we roll into Motala quite satisfied and tired.

We cycle according to Grusets Vänner's principles.
* No one is left alone.
* Sprint or peel off if you like but let the group catch up again
* We take care of and help each other in case of mechanival issues.
* We bike safely and keep our distance, remember the "three second rule" especially on gravel.
* It's all about having the nicest of days.

Price:

Participation is free of charge, we have arranged food and accommodation packages for those who want.
When we make a group booking, this is paid during the month of June, we will get back to you when the time is right.
