Gravel weekend in Skaraborg

Seven friends went down to Skaraborg to try the nice roads around Undern and Göta canal. We were lucky enough to live absolutely fantastic right by the water with a bath, sauna and homemade Pizza. So the right place, the right food and good friends, all set for a great weekend.

Saturday started with some loose gravel, the local count had maintained the road, a bit challenging but it went well after all. The heat rises, 25-26 degrees, SEK 1000 to whoever saw a cloud, hardly any wind. We drank like camels. After four miles we come to a beautiful beach, quite nice to breathe in the shade and take some pictures.

We steam towards coffee, vegan meatball sandwiches and buns, it's nice that all the signs were in German, you can guess where the tourist streams are coming from.

Some time after coffee, in the middle of Tiveden National Park, I hear a faint shout behind me - "Gerry... Gerry".. Secret Pontus had a problem! It turned out to be the ratchet in his DT Swiss 240 EXP hub that was no longer engaging. Finished bike. The apostle horses had to be given extra feed and off they went.

A little call to the next cafe for help, far to go... 20km. We decide that some ride ahead while P and V follow. After all, P is enterprising and soon managed to charm a German family to drive him, now with a slightly sprained carbon fiber rocket for coffee. Unfortunately, V hadn't quite figured out how the updated "gena" route turned out, but after some misdirection she got it right.

P rents a MTB, leaves the bike there and we drive the last 25k to pick up the car, while the rest of the gang complete the route.

In the evening, pizza was served, the new wood-burning Onni oven was inaugurated and the occasional bottle of good wine was enjoyed before we fell asleep, like exhausted Cranes.

Sunday, a trip to Sjötorp and then along Göta Kanal.

Mr P acted as escort car, in the absence of a working bicycle. Met us at various places, served ice cold Frappucino and salty treats, maybe a new standard? Some wanted to scale up and requested Russian Caviar and blinis, but apparently there is some sort of limit?

The tour was initially mostly in forest, with some open sections.

Nice dirt roads, a little path and then a beautiful pond.

In Sjötorp we had a better lunch and finally it was time for 40k Göta Kanal, really nice and magically beautiful. We studied a sluice, a fishing competition and a huge ice cream.

After Kanalen, we only have 20km to go, but we have time for a small navigation error and a hike-a-bike, Class III. Kind of just moss 🙂

Hike-a-bike

Once there, we take a swim, pack our bikes and summarize the weekend as absolutely fantastic. Thanks to P who had arranged and thanks to everyone who participated!
