The Basque Country is best known for its food culture and its tapas-like pintxos. There are also three three-star Michelin restaurants in the country, all in the province we pass through and visit. Many people call San Sebastián the capital of food, and of course we make a stop and spend the night there.
Pintxos
One pintxo is a small snack served in bars or small taverns in northeastern Spain and mainly in the Basque Country. Pintxos are a common snack when socializing with friends or family and thus constitute a strong social tradition in the Basque Country and Navarre, a bit like fika for us in Sweden. As a concept, it is similar to tapas with the main difference that pintxos are usually pierced with toothpicks or skewers, often with a piece of bread. They are served in individual portions and are ordered individually and always paid for independently of the drink.
